History of photography

When was the first photograph taken? A little history will do you good!

Photography appeared in the 1820s. The first photographic process was invented by a Frenchman Joseph Nicephore in 1822 exactly. Over the decades others will make improvements to this invention, which will democratize it.

The first attempts to make color photographs were taken by Edmond Becquerel in 1848 but without much success. It is in 1869 that Louis Ducos du Hauron succeeded in making the first color photograph. And it is in 1891 that the physicist Gabriel Lippman found the way to obtain photos directly in color. This allowed him to receive the Nobel Prize in 1906 but the technique was very complex, it remained at the trial stage. It is finally in 1906 that the Lumière brothers found a process which will be practicable by everyone. It is also in 1935 that this process was improved. Moreover, this one is still current because the films still use silver bromide, gelatin as well as the principle of Agfacolor and Kodachrome.

It is thus in 1839 that the new profession of photographer was born. In 1948, Dr. Edwin H. Land developed the very first instant development camera: the Polaroid. All the current processes are only improvements of the first inventions. It was in 1975 that the electronic photo was invented. As for the first digital cameras, they made their appearance in 1994.
